Instructional Design and the big question

An interesting here at the ASTD blog on the need in e-learning and specifically in rapid e-learning, for instructional designers (IDs).

The Big Question

My tuppence worth is that for many SMEs the ROI doesn’t jusify ID input – especially in the case of rapid e-learning which is often bite size, highly situated and doesn’t make much demand on for ‘learner engagement’ making the design less important.

Sorry! (and i’m generally a fan of design in general and think for larger e-learning interventions, instructional design is a critical success factor – but for downloadable PowerPoints etc. to disseminate information, minor changes in practices/ routines, then ID will not often povide sufficient value.
